I first visited Big South Fork National Recreation Area about 25 years ago, soon after I moved to Columbus. When recently trying to find someplace to camp and hike for a dew days, I noticed it on the map and decided to head down there again.

I recently drove to DC to see the exhibit “In Light of the Past”, which showcased 175 of the National Gallery’s collection of photographs.
Mingus Mill
Location: Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NC/TN
I spent three days camping in the Smokemont campground on the south side of the park (North Carolina). The Mingus grist mill is only a couple miles down the road from the campground, and just inside the park from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center.

We arrived at Old Faithful geyser basin before sunrise (~6:00 am) and started perusing the boardwalk for good shooting angles. We were the only two people visible in the entire area. It was an erie feeling, but a great place to await the sunrise.

Bearing New Hampshire
On the drive home from Maine, I stopped in New Hampshire for a couple days. Due to the unusually hot weather, I decided not to stay any longer. The 90+ degree temperatures really limited the activities I could do with the dogs. The highlight of the trip was returning to my campsite to find I had a new neighbor.

I just towed a 1990 Sunline Camper from Ohio to Maine using a 1996 Chevy Suburban that I purchased less than two weeks before the trip.
